Hi, my name is
Michael McAuley.

Michael wearing a gray coat standing in front of snow covered mountain peaks in Alaska.

I’m a full-stack web developer with over 13 years of professional experience. I care deeply about my craft, the amazing power of the modern web platform, and the importance of good design and accessibility. Check out my full résumé below.

Recently, I’ve been spending a lot of my free time working independently on web & mobile apps. The first of these are nearing release, and I’m excited to share them with you soon. Take a look at my list of projects below for details.

I live in North Carolina with my wife, two daughters, and our chocolate lab. When I’m not writing code, I enjoy reading and spending time with my family. I also occasionally write over on my personal blog.

Let’s connect:

Work History

Career Break

For the past several months, I’ve been taking a deliberate break from my career to focus on personal health and independent software projects, including two products that are nearing release.

I’m now actively seeking opportunities to apply my skills and experience in a new full-stack or front-end focused engineering role.

Engineering Manager

Transcarent Apr 2024–Jun 2025

Led a team of 4 engineers that shipped an AI-powered healthcare navigator chatbot using RAG to surface personalized benefits information to tens of thousands of patients.

Collaborated closely with product, design, and the AI platform team to define architecture, prioritize features, and maintain a consistent two-week delivery cadence.

Senior Software Engineer II

Transcarent Apr 2023–Apr 2024

Built the primary patient-facing web client for a telehealth product serving tens of thousands of users, using Next.js within a cross-functional team of ~8 engineers.

Architected and built a Braze-powered incentive program rewarding patients for key onboarding actions driving a significant increase in user registration and engagement.

Director of Engineering

Janus Health Apr 2022–Apr 2023

Headed a ~15-person engineering organization spanning 3 product teams and a QA team; partnered with executive leadership to define roadmap and technology strategy.

Led a cross-functional initiative to decompose a monolithic back-end into microservices, improving deployment independence and enabling the engineering org to scale.

Principal Software Engineer

Janus Health Dec 2020–Apr 2022

Served as one of the first web engineers at an early-stage startup; built rapid prototypes and proofs-of-concept that helped establish product-market fit across multiple product lines.

Designed and built large portions of the web application, using Node.js, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, and Angular, working directly with the CTO on architecture decisions.

Grew and managed the web application team from 3 to 12 engineers as the company scaled.

Engineering Manager

Rally Health Jul 2020–Dec 2020

Managed a team of 3 engineers building an Angular application for a new employee assistance program (EAP) portal, delivering sprint goals consistently in collaboration with product and design.

Senior Software Engineer

Rally Health Oct 2018–Jul 2020

Ported a health coaching platform to Angular under a tight deadline, taking full ownership of the front-end appointment scheduling feature.

Worked closely with the lead designer to build a reusable, composable UI components as part of a new design system adopted across the product.

Senior Software Engineer

Genesys Apr 2017–Oct 2018

Led front-end development for all role, permission, and licensing features across AngularJS and Ember.js applications.

Software Engineer

Genesys Jul 2015–Apr 2017

Built and expanded admin tooling in an AngularJS application; authored and maintained an open-source, data grid component and framework-specific wrappers.

Associate Software Engineer

Interactive Intelligence Jul 2014–Jul 2015

Bootstrapped a new AngularJS single-page application to replace legacy admin tools built in Knockout.js and Ext JS.

Web Application Developer

Teneo Media May 2012–Jul 2014

Built full-stack web applications for client projects across the travel and tourism industries; modernized legacy desktop-only applications using responsive design patterns.

Maintained and improved an in-house PHP framework, CMS, and localization tooling.

Projects

Upcoming
Web

A user-customizable browser start page I’ll be launching very soon! Follow me on social media or subscribe to my blog to stay updated.

Upcoming
Web
iOS

My most ambitious personal project yet! I’m not quite ready to share details except that it’s an app I desperately need in my own life, and I’m branching out beyond my web developer roots to build an iOS app, as well.

I’ll be opening a private beta soon, and sharing lots more about it on social media and my blog when the time is right.

Personal Site
Web

The site you’re currently viewing! It’s a single page, generated as a static site so it’s incredibly simple to deploy and host. I’m proud of my custom original design and the clean markup and stylesheets.

Foolish Syntax
Web

My personal blog, launched back in 2024. Admittedly, I haven’t written much yet, but I intend to post more frequently going forward.

It’s a static site generated by Astro and also sporting a custom original design that I think turned out very nicely.
